Eposia's Crosstime Saloon is based on Spider Robinson's "Callahan's" series. We offer a chill, relaxed location to unwind after your adventures, or socialize, rant or share your stories.
We'll have space for playing card or board games or other similar social activities. We encourage musicians, poets, storytellers, prose readers, and other unamplified performance artists to use our camp at any time.
We'll be serving irish coffee (better known to Callahanians as "God's Blessing") and drink specials. The Crosstime Saloon Toasting Ritual is the perfect opportunity to get something off your chest. If you have something you need to share, good or bad, come and do it here among friends. We provide fire and paper cups for the Toasting, but all others should bring their own cup for beverages. Alcohol donations will be greatly appreciated.
We are bringing the fine Callahan's Crosstime Saloon tradition back to Pyropolis in 2008. Eposia's is the perfect place to make friends when the grassy playa gets too big.
The Crosstime Saloon Toasting Ritual
The Ritual of Toasting is a long-standing Callahanian tradition and an integral part of Eposia's Crosstime Saloon. Any patron of the Place in need of making a toast may do so at any time and have the respectful attention of all the other bar patrons. Toasts are made to anything which has had or is having a significant impact on your life, in any way, good or bad. Toasting is simple:
- Using one of the paper cups provided specifically for Toasting, obtain your drink of choice from the bar and make your way to the Toasting Fire upon the stage.
- Ring the bell found there to obtain the respectful attention of the other bar patrons.
- Raise your cup, name your toast, and drink.
- After naming your toast and drinking, any other patrons who wish to lift their drinks with yours join in.
- Once you have named your toast, if that was the extent of your need, skip to step 7.
- However, should you find, upon naming your toast, that you have a need to expound, elaborate, elucidate, or exhort upon your simple toast, stay up on the stage and share your pain with the other patrons of the Place, so that it may be lessened; or share your joy, that it may be increased. While following the Flipside rules of self-responsibility and respecting personal boundaries, Patrons at this point may ask questions or dialogue with you on the toast topic. To indicate that you are finished, proceed to step 7.
- When you are finished drop the cup into the Toasting Fire and burn it, then step down from the stage. This is the signal to the other patrons that normal merriment may resume.
There are no limits to frequency of toasts or length of time needed for a particular toast, though we do ask our patrons to be mindful of allowing all who desire it Toasting time.
All patrons MUST give their respectful attention to any toast, or be asked to depart our establishment.
